SCALP-COOLING MACHINE PURCHASED BY WPH
Trust Chairman David Holt and fellow Trustee Bob Grieve were among invited guests at the Royal opening of the new £22 million Stratford Hospital, performed by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.
The invitations followed a £20,000 donation from the Trust to the Cancer and Eye Hospital Appeal for the purchase of a scalp cooling machine.
Used by patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment, the machine can help to reduce hair loss in some individuals being treated for cancer.
The appeal purchased a wide range of items such as chemotherapy chairs to enhance the functional equipment and materials already funded by the NHS.
Donations such as those from the WPH Charitable Trust have helped ensure first class facilities for patients undergoing their treatment.
The Rigby Cancer Unit at Stratford Hospital follows the same very successful model at the Aylesford Unit at Warwick Hospital which has seen ever increasing demand for its services since opening in 2008.
The new cancer unit makes treatment more accessible for residents in Stratford and the surrounding villages, especially for those having to attend for daily treatment.
The new hospital took two and a half years to build and also has a health and wellbeing hub, diagnostic service and MRI suite on the ground floor, dedicated eye unit with eight consulting rooms, three treatment rooms with associated investigation rooms, and a state-of-the-art operating theatre on the first floor, and a cancer unit with 12 chemotherapy treatment chairs and a range of facilities including complementary therapy room on the top floor.
David Holt said: “Stratford Hospital is a hugely impressive facility which will greatly benefit residents in the south Warwickshire area, providing the best treatment possible with fantastic staff and facilities.
“We were delighted to support the hospital in purchasing a scalp cooling machine and look forward to hearing the benefits it brings to patients under the hospital’s care.”
During her visit the Princess Royal met with clinicians, key fundraisers and patients.

WPH Charitable Trust provides funding for individuals, groups and organisations which work to prevent, relieve and cure sickness in Coventry and Warwickshire. The Trust provides grants for medical research, buildings, equipment and other forms of medical care for residents of the region. All applications are made via the Trust’s website, and are assessed on a quarterly basis.
