CHAIR OF WPH PETER HANDSLIP OVERSEES ALLOCATION OF £681,000 FUNDING IN COVENTRY AND WARWICKSHIRE
Peter Handslip the outgoing Chair of the WPH Charitable Trust is celebrating a highly successful two years in the chair, in which the Trust granted £681,000 of funding to help make a difference to the lives of sick, injured and vulnerable people in Coventry and Warwickshire.
Peter helped steer the allocation of almost 400 successful grants over the two years, out of an original 570-plus applications made.
Among those to benefit were people with lifelong conditions, those whose circumstances had changed due to injury or a debilitating illness, and people battling mental health problems.
Peter said there had been a rise in the number of applications from families whose lives were affected by domestic violence, mental health issues and Autism.
Trustees with the aid of videoconferencing were able to continue approving applications which was particularly important given the pandemic had had such a huge impact on people already battling mental and physical health problems.
In addition to the grants approved by all the Trustees, on a quarterly basis, Peter oversaw the allocation of up to a further £15,000 per quarter to help people in more urgent situations. These included women and children with mental health needs and who had suffered domestic violence. Some of these grants were small sums of money but clearly made a life changing impact, in helping to improve the physical and mental health of recipients.
Peter said: “We are delighted to have been able to continue our work in helping people and organisations such as the hospices over these past two years. The last year in particular has been an extraordinary year in which we have seen applications brought about specifically by the pandemic, many charities like the hospices lost much of their income because of the pandemic but still had to carry on with their important work. “
