Chair Report: October 2023
WPH Charitable Trust continues to support health-related projects for individuals, groups and organisations across Coventry and Warwickshire and hopefully will do so for many years to come.
I joined WPH as a trustee in 2020 and was privileged to take over the role of Chair of the Trust in July 2023.
The Board of Trustees is made up of medical and non-medical members where their range of complimentary skills and support is invaluable in considering the applications we receive fairly and compassionately.
The applications range from single pieces of equipment to building adaptations to activity opportunities to health care provision and medical research projects.
My background is General Practice, I came to Coventry in 1984 and worked as a full time GP partner at a city Practice for over 30 years. As a family doctor I had the opportunity to deliver long term holistic care which is what I valued most about my career.
Since retirement in 2019 I have taken on a number of voluntary roles including my role with WPH Charitable Trust; it has been rewarding to work with the other Board members and be able to support so many of the applications we receive.
As I have become more involved with the Trust I have appreciated what a valuable resource it is for the people of Coventry and Warwickshire. It is humbling to hear how much even a small amount can mean to people who are struggling to manage with health issues.
As an organisation we are conscious that the long- term difficulties of the pandemic have placed an inevitable strain on individuals, families and organisations, especially charities whose fundraising activities have been seriously curtailed. Coupled with the current global economic and political tensions it is clear how much funding for many is needed even more than ever.
We strive to reach out to as many people in the area as we can. We continue to inform health care professionals, those delivering social care, organisations such as Citizens Advice and many other agencies who deal directly with people who might benefit from our funding, with our remit to support health related projects.
If you feel anyone you know may have need for our role as a potential source of funding we are happy to consider all applications and hopefully we will be able to do so for many years to come.
